MEET YOUR COACH

Meet Coach Jensin Sommer – Your Championship Performance Specialist

I’m a PPR-Certified Pickleball Instructor, Maryland Senior Olympics Multi-Gold Medalist, and Adjunct Pickleball Instructor at the U.S. Naval Academy, where I teach the sport to the next generation of Navy officers. I’ve dedicated my coaching career to one mission: helping players unlock their true competitive potential in their 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, and beyond.

My story: I captained the Women’s Tennis Team at the U.S. Naval Academy and went on to serve my country in the U.S. Navy. In April 2022, I transitioned from tennis to pickleball after experiencing severe sciatica, and I fell in love with pickleball almost immediately. Within two years I was earning Gold medals at the Maryland Senior Olympics and competing at the 4.5+ level.

But here’s what drives me as a coach: I know what it takes to get from good to great. I’ve lived that journey, from a competitive tennis background to multi-Gold pickleball competitor, and I understand exactly which adjustments unlock the next level for players like you.

Today I teach pickleball to midshipmen at the Naval Academy, work with the Annapolis Pickleball Club (1,500+ members), and coach players who are serious about competing and improving. I was also instrumental in bringing waterfront pickleball courts to the Naval Academy, because I believe this sport deserves every resource it can get.

What I bring to your game:

Naples, FL US Open Pickleball Championship, Silver Medalist – Women's Singles 2026

Maryland Senior Olympics Gold Medalist – Mixed Doubles 4.0–4.499 Age 50+ (2025)

Life Time Pickleball Classic Annapolis – Competed at Mixed Doubles 4.5 and Above (November 2024)

PPR Certified Instructor — the official certification partner of USA Pickleball

Rated 4.5 in both tennis AND pickleball — rare dual-sport expertise

U.S. Navy retiree — discipline, structure, and commitment in everything I do

Maryland Senior Olympics Gold Medalist – Women's Doubles 2025 (with partner Chie Tougas)

Maryland Senior Olympics Gold Medalist – Women's 55–59 Division I (2023)

Already registered for Maryland Senior Olympics 2026 — still competing, still winning

Adjunct Pickleball Instructor at the U.S. Naval Academy since January 2025

Specialist in transitioning tennis players to pickleball

Former Varsity Women's Tennis Co-Captain at the U.S. Naval Academy

My approach: My teaching is rooted in strong communication, clear demonstrations of correct technique, and positive, encouraging feedback. I place a heavy emphasis on footwork and mechanics because they directly affect performance, consistency, injury prevention, and strategic control. I’m a lifelong learner and I firmly believe pickleball has room for everyone ready to compete at the advanced level, I bring the discipline of a Naval officer and the fire of a champion.

Here's what makes my approach unstoppable:

I bring active competition at the 4.5+ level combined with Naval Academy-caliber coaching structure. I don’t just teach what works in theory, I teach what I use in tournament play right now. When I show you a tactical adjustment, it’s because I’ve tested it under pressure and it delivers results.

But here’s what I’m MOST focused on: Championship-level drilling at match speed.

Not comfortable drilling, but purposeful, high-intensity drilling where you execute the same tactical sequence until it becomes instinct. The kind where you hit a plethora of balls at match speed and suddenly your body is making decisions your mind hasn’t caught up to yet. The kind that builds competitive muscle memory so that when you’re in a tight match, you execute, automatically.

I’m a specialist in transitioning tennis players to pickleball, which means I understand exactly how prior racket sport experience can accelerate, or accidentally limit, your game at this level. I’ll help you harness every asset your background gives you while eliminating the habits that are holding your rating back.

On May 31st, I’m bringing this championship mindset and Naval Academy coaching discipline to advanced players ready to break through in Millersville.

Schedule

Your 4-Hour Transformation Journey

I. Introduction & OVERVIEW (15 minutes)

Focus: Setting the tone, the goals, and the rules of engagement

  • Welcome and quick introductions, names, skill levels, and goals for the afternoon
  • Overview of the clinic structure and how the 4 hours will flow
  • Camp goals: what intermediate-to-advanced growth actually looks like
  • Court rules, drilling etiquette, and expectations for the afternoon

II. Warm-Up & Skills Assessment (20 minutes)

Focus: Getting the body ready and getting eyes on every player

  • Dynamic warm-up to prepare shoulders, hips, and footwork for high-intensity drilling
  • Live ball assessment across the major shot categories
  • A skills assessment is a structured evaluation of each player’s shots so coaching can be calibrated to real gaps.

III. What Is an Intermediate/Advanced Player? (15 minutes)

Focus: Defining the level you’re playing at, and the level you’re chasing

  • Intermediate players (3.0–3.5) have moved past the basics but break down under pressure
  • Advanced players (3.6–4.0+) win points through pattern recognition, controlled aggression, and tactical patience
  • Understanding the gap between these two definitions is the first step in closing it

BREAK (5 minutes)

IV. Serve & Return Foundations (25 minutes)

Focus: The two shots that start every single rally

  • The serve is the only shot in pickleball where you have complete control, and every server trades off consistency vs. power, placement vs. spin
  • The return of serve is the receiving team’s first chance to take control, using depth, height, and direction to apply pressure
  • Why both shots are foundational: a weak serve or a weak return puts you on defense before the rally has even started?

BREAK (5 minutes)

V. Dinking — The Foundation of the Advanced Game (25 minutes)

Focus: Why dinks separate 3.5 players from 4.0+ players

  • A dink is a soft shot hit from the kitchen line that arcs over the net and lands inside the opponent’s non-volley zone
  • Dinks neutralize aggression, force uncomfortable positions, and create the opening for a winning shot
  • Most points at 3.5+ are won or lost in extended dink rallies — this is the skill that separates 3.5 from 4.0

VI. Drops, Drives & Shot Selection From the Baseline (30 minutes)

Focus: Focus: Understanding the choices that define every third shot

  • A third shot drop is a soft shot from the baseline that arcs into the opponent’s kitchen
  • A drive is a hard, low, fast-paced groundstroke from the baseline, designed to rush opponents or force a weak return
  • The 3rd, 5th, and 7th shot conversation: each one is another opportunity to advance to the kitchen or apply pressure
  • Drives are not always the answer — know when, where, and how to follow up

BREAK (5 minutes)

VII. Resets & The Transition Zone (25 minutes)

Focus: Surviving the most dangerous part of the court

  • A reset is a soft, controlled shot that lands in the opponent’s kitchen and takes pace off the rally while you’re under attack
  • The transition zone is the area between the baseline and the kitchen line — the most vulnerable part of the court
  • Mastering it means absorbing pace, hitting soft balls under pressure, and continuing to move forward without panicking

VIII. Volleys, Blocks & Lobs (25 minutes)

Focus: Three shots that win or lose points at the kitchen line

  • A volley is any shot hit out of the air before the ball bounces
  • A block is a defensive volley with a soft, absorbing paddle face
  • The most common mistake at this level is over-swinging on volleys — the paddle does the work

IX. Shot Selection, Patterns & Strategy (20 minutes)

Focus: Smarter decisions, not just better shots

  • Shot selection is choosing the right shot based on your position, your opponents’ positions, and the ball you’re given
  • Switching things up — varying pace, height, spin, and placement — prevents opponents from reading your patterns

IX. Partner Dynamics, Communication & Closing (15 minutes)

Focus: Putting away the ego and playing as a unit

  • Having a plan means knowing your formation, your targets, and your responses to common opponent patterns before the point starts
  • Talking on the court — “mine,” “yours,” “out,” “switch,” “go” — is one of the simplest ways to win more points immediately
  • Closing thoughts, individual feedback, DUPR and tournament prep takeaways, and next steps

WHY WE'RE OBSESSED WITH CHAMPIONSHIP-LEVEL DRILLING (AND WHY YOU WILL BE TOO)

Most advanced camps still spend too much time talking and not enough time executing.

I’m different.

Here’s my philosophy: Elite Drilling = Championship Performance

You don’t elevate your game by reviewing concepts you already understand. You elevate it by executing those concepts under pressure, over and over, with a coach who has won at the highest regional levels watching and correcting every rep.

And here’s the truth about why I’m obsessed with match-speed drilling for advanced women players:

Because let’s be honest—we all love that moment when a ball comes at us fast and our body just handles it, don’t we?

That moment when you read your opponent’s speed-up before it arrives and put it away cleanly.

That rush when your third shot drop lands exactly where you need it—three times in a row under pressure.

That feeling when you and your partner are in complete sync at the kitchen line, moving as one unit.

You don’t have to wait weeks to feel that shift. You feel it immediately. Right there on the court.

That’s why championship drilling is the heartbeat of my advanced camps. Not because I think it’s good for you (though it is), but because there is nothing like the feeling of executing at your full potential, and watching your opponents realize they’re in a different kind of match.

I came to pickleball through severe sciatica. I know what it means to fight for every point. I know what it takes to earn a Gold medal. And I bring that same discipline, fire, and precision to every woman I coach.

Player Stories

See why 98% of our campers recommend this camp.

Yeah. I’m Gene Justman out of, Denver, Colorado, and, good nuts and bolts program on, playing pickleball. I learned to get low.

I learned to hit the ball long and towards the back line. Great program.

– Gene Justman

Hi, I’m Debbie from Oklahoma. I really enjoyed today’s drill. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it exceeded my expectations. I got plenty of reps, learned many new aspects of the game, and added to my toolbox. It was a great experience.

– Debbie

Hi, I’m Linda. I’m from Iowa. I joined the camp today. It was great to touch on all different aspects. We’re able to drill enough that we got good at all the different aspects. So I’m ready to hit the courts.

– Linda

A super helpful tip today thatI know I can apply immediatelyand some really great drills that my wife, who’s my playing partner, and I can can put to use this week as well. It was a great clinic.

– Camp Attendee

Hi. I just finished an Obsessed
Pickleballers clinic, and I would
recommend it to anyone who wants to get better. She has a great way of explaining things, and she teaches in a way that anyone can get better in the four hour session.

– Camp Attendee

REMEMBER THE LAST TIME YOU WALKED OFF THE COURT KNOWING YOU LEFT POINTS OUT THERE?

You know that feeling when you replay the match in your head…

…thinking about the third shot you should have dropped but drove instead?

…watching a player you know you should beat walk away with the win?

…feeling that gap between the player you are and the player you know you could be?

That feeling ends on May 31st.

Because by the time you walk off the court at 6:00 PM, something fundamental will have shifted. Your footwork will respond differently. Your decision-making will be faster. And the next time you step onto a competitive court, your opponents will immediately notice something has changed.

IMAGINE THIS: It's Tuesday, June 2nd (Two Days After Camp)

You walk onto your regular court for your weekly competitive game.

As soon as you start warming up, your playing partners stop and stare.

“What happened to you?”

Your third shot drops are landing consistently, pulling opponents out of position before the rally even begins. At the kitchen line, you’re reading speed-ups before they arrive and resetting with control that rattles your opponents. Your movement is a half-step faster. Your shot selection is a decision ahead.

By the third game, they’re asking what you did. By the fifth game, they’re asking where you learned it. By the time you leave, they’re asking if you can teach them.

That’s the difference between who you are right now and who you’ll be after the camp.

And it all starts the moment you register, because the transformation begins before you even arrive.

WHAT YOU'LL ACTUALLY WALK AWAY WITH (The Real Outcomes)

You'll Dominate Points Without Exhausting Yourself

I’ll teach you how to control rallies through intelligent positioning, shot selection, and tactical patience—not power and hustle. You’ll start winning more points while using less energy.

Soon after camp, your opponents will be working twice as hard for half the results. While they’re scrambling, you’ll be composed and ready for the next point. This is especially powerful for us 40+ players: you’ll learn to play smarter, not harder, which means you can play multiple times a week without wearing yourself out or risking injury.

You'll Meet Your New Competitive Women's Crew

I’ll connect you with other serious players at your exact skill level. You’ll exchange numbers, join the Obsessed Pickleballers Community together, and stay permanently connected with every woman you meet.

No one gets left behind. Whether you’re naturally social or more reserved, you’ll be welcomed and connected through our community platform.

After camp, the group chat starts buzzing with match invitations and drilling sessions. By next month, you’ll have a regular crew of competitive who understand your goals, your schedule, and your commitment to improvement.

You'll Know Exactly What To Do In Every Situation

I’ll eliminate the hesitation that’s been costing you points. Should you drive or drop? Your body knows. When do you speed up the dink rally? You’re already reading it. How do you handle the lob when you’re pulled wide? You’re executing before you finish thinking about it.

When you’re playing competitive matches next week, your opponents will watch you differently. They’ll see a player who plays with certainty and control—someone who is always one step ahead.

You'll Fix The Technical Flaws That Have Been Capping Your Rating

I’ll help you identify the specific issues that are currently keeping you from breaking into 4.5+. When I show you exactly how to fix them, with the precision of a Naval Academy instructor and the eye of a current 4.5+ competitor—the shots that used to frustrate you become your weapons.

Most players at your level spend years fighting the same weaknesses. With the right coaching, you’ll correct yours in a single afternoon.

You'll Reignite The Competitive Fire You Had When You First Discovered This Game

I’ll show you how good you can actually be. You’ll leave buzzing with competitive energy, already planning your next tournament or match.

Remember when you first broke into the 3.5+ level and couldn’t wait to play every day? If that fire has been smoldering lately…

On May 31st, it roars back.

Because when you experience what it feels like to play at your true potential, when you finally execute the shots you’ve been working on under real match pressure, that’s when the obsession returns.

This camp is designed specifically for advanced players at the 3.6-4.0 level. Every drill, every tactical lesson, and every piece of coaching is calibrated for players who already understand the game and are ready to compete at the next level.

Absolutely. You don’t need a DUPR rating. The 3.6-4.0 range is simply to help you understand the competitive focus of this camp. If you’re an experienced player who wins regularly at the 3.5 level and is pushing toward 4.0+, you’re in exactly the right place.
