MEET YOUR COACHES

Hi, we are Coaches Wayne Turner & Pat McNally

Two Coaches. One Mission. Your Breakthrough at Middletown’s Premier Pickleball Facility.

We’re bringing you two powerhouse coaches under one roof, and this combination doesn’t happen often. Intermediate players in Middletown don’t get this kind of firepower every day.

Coach Wayne Turner – Triple-Certified Transformation Specialist

I’m a triple-certified racquet sports professional with over 25 years of experience who’s dedicated my career to helping passionate pickleball players unlock their true potential and reach their true potential, especially players in their 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, and beyond.

What I bring to your game:

  • Triple Professional Certification: USPTA Tennis, U.S. Squash, and USPS Pickleball
  • 25+ years active in the racquet sports industry
  • 6 years of pickleball experience, 3 years of coaching
  • 4.5 DUPR player
  • Director of Engagement at Rally Point Club
  • Former Director of Recreation at Newport County YMCA – grew pickleball program from zero to 300+ players
  • College tennis coach – Providence College (Big East), won New England Championship
  • High school championship coach – Rhode Island Girls Tennis Champions, coached many All State Champions
  • Currently teaching at Newport Pickleball Club
  • Adjunct Professor in Health & Physical Education at Rhode Island College

My story? I started playing pickleball about six years ago. Like many coaches, I was highly skilled in tennis and squash, so my introduction to the sport was easy. After playing and studying, I was then able to grasp both the subtle and obvious differences in the game which helped me understand and appreciate it even more. As a 4.5 player who’s trained with many great coaches and top players, I bring that competitive knowledge to help intermediate players break through to the next level.

At the Newport County YMCA, I grew a pickleball program from absolutely nothing to over 300 players of all levels who participated in daily round-robins, daily clinics, and tournaments. I’ve organized numerous team-building and special pickleball events, and I understand exactly what it takes to help intermediate players reach 4.0 and beyond.

My approach: I am very passionate about my playing and teaching skills. My goals are very simple: If my students can grasp one new idea or concept which helps them improve, I will be most pleased. I’ve trained with many great coaches and top players which has been valuable in the better training of my student base and to be able to lend coaching expertise in more competitive settings. I’ve always been passionate and committed to taking a personal interest in my students and their growth, both on and off the court.

Coach Pat McNally – Your Program Director and Court Architect

I’m a PPR-Certified Pickleball Professional and Director of Racquet Sports at Newport Pickleball Club. I’ve spent 17+ years building and leading elite racquet programs at some of the most prestigious clubs on the East Coast, and I know this court, this community, and exactly what it takes to help intermediate players make the leap to the next level.

What I bring to your game:

  • PPR Certified Pickleball Professional
  • Director of Racquet Sports at Newport Pickleball Club, Middletown, RI — your home court for this camp
  • 17+ Years of Elite Racquet Program Leadership — Sakonnet Golf Club (Little Compton, RI) and Dedham Country and Polo Club (Dedham, MA)
  • Expert in developing players transitioning from tennis and other racquet sports to competitive pickleball
  • Advanced competition coach — manages the Advanced Mixed Ladder League for 3.5 to 4.0+ DUPR players
  • Multi-sport innovator — oversaw the 2026 expansion of Newport Pickleball Club to include Padel courts
  • High-energy coaching style recognized throughout the Rhode Island sports community

My story: I’ve spent over 17 years at the helm of some of the most prestigious racquet clubs on the East Coast, first at Sakonnet Golf Club in Little Compton, then at Dedham Country and Polo Club in Massachusetts, building and leading programs that transformed casual members into passionate, committed players. When pickleball arrived, I didn’t just observe it from the sidelines. I dove in, earned my PPR certification, and brought the same program-building discipline I’d applied to tennis and squash to this fast-growing sport.

Today I serve as Director of Racquet Sports at Newport Pickleball Club—the very facility where you’ll be training on May 30th, where I oversee everything from beginner clinics to the Advanced Mixed Ladder League for 3.5 to 4.0+ players. In February 2026, I led the expansion of our facility to include Padel courts, integrating a rising global sport alongside our existing pickleball curriculum. But the work I’m most proud of? Watching intermediate players make the breakthrough they’ve been chasing—the moment the game clicks at a higher level and they realize what they’re truly capable of.

My approach: I believe great coaching starts with structure. Every drill has a reason. Every rep builds toward a specific outcome. After 17+ years directing elite programs, I’ve learned exactly which adjustments separate players who plateau from players who break through, and I bring that precision to every session I run. Whether you’re a lifelong tennis player transitioning to pickleball or a dedicated intermediate pushing toward 4.0+, I meet you exactly where you are… and I know the path forward better than almost anyone in this region, because I coach it every single day on these courts.

Here's what makes our approach unstoppable:

Wayne brings 25+ years of championship-tested racquet coaching and the rare ability to build programs from nothing into thriving communities of hundreds. Pat brings PPR certification, elite club leadership, and the insider knowledge of a director who coaches daily on the exact courts you’ll be playing. Together, we cover every angle, Wayne’s big-picture game transformation and Pat’s precision court-level instruction create a coaching experience you simply can’t get anywhere else in Rhode Island.

But here’s what we’re MOST focused on: Purposeful, improvement-driven drilling.

Not boring repetition, but strategically designed drilling where you hit ball after ball with two experienced sets of eyes watching, correcting, and pushing you in real time. The kind that builds both skill and confidence simultaneously. The kind where you feel the improvement happening right there on the court.

We take a personal interest in every player. We drill with purpose. You improve. You feel it immediately.

On May 30th, we’re bringing this combined championship expertise and home-court advantage to 16 lucky intermediate players in Middletown.

Why We Are Obsessed WITH DRILLING (AND WHY YOU WILL BE TOO)

Most camps spend too much time talking and not enough time doing.

We’re the opposite.

Here’s our philosophy: Drilling = Transformation

You don’t get better by listening to lectures about the third shot drop. You get better by hitting third shot drops repeatedly while a coach with 25+ years of racquet sports expertise watches and corrects you.

And here’s the truth about why we’re obsessed with drilling:

Because let’s be honest, we all love that moment when we implement something new and it actually WORKS, don’t we?

That moment when you adjust your paddle angle and suddenly your third shot lands exactly where you want it.

That rush when you hit 10 serves in a row to the same spot.

That feeling when your opponent fires a fast ball at you and you put it away cleanly.

You don’t have to wait weeks to see if the coaching worked. You see it immediately. Right there on the court.

That’s why drilling is the heartbeat of our camps. Not because we think it’s good for you (though it is), but because it’s incredibly satisfying to watch yourself improve in real-time.

Player Stories

See why 98% of our campers recommend this camp.

Yeah. I’m Gene Justman out of, Denver, Colorado, and, good nuts and bolts program on, playing pickleball. I learned to get low.

I learned to hit the ball long and towards the back line. Great program.

– Gene Justman

Hi, I’m Debbie from Oklahoma. I really enjoyed today’s drill. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it exceeded my expectations. I got plenty of reps, learned many new aspects of the game, and added to my toolbox. It was a great experience.

– Debbie

Hi, I’m Linda. I’m from Iowa. I joined the camp today. It was great to touch on all different aspects. We’re able to drill enough that we got good at all the different aspects. So I’m ready to hit the courts.

– Linda

A super helpful tip today thatI know I can apply immediatelyand some really great drills that my wife, who’s my playing partner, and I can can put to use this week as well. It was a great clinic.

– Camp Attendee

Hi. I just finished an Obsessed
Pickleballers clinic, and I would
recommend it to anyone who wants to get better. Mark has a great way of explaining things, and he teaches in a way that anyone can get better in the four hour session.

– Camp Attendee

REMEMBER THE LAST TIME YOU WALKED OFF THE COURT FRUSTRATED?

You know that moment when you replay the match in your head…

thinking about all the shots you should have made?

…watching players you know you should beat walk away with the win?

…feeling that gap between the player you are and the player you know you could be?

That ends on May 30th.

Because by the time you walk off the court at 5:00 PM, something fundamental will have changed. Your body will respond differently. Your mind will read the game differently. And the next time you play, your regular partners will immediately notice something has shifted.

IMAGINE THIS: It's Tuesday, June 2nd (Three Days After Camp)

You walk onto your local court for your regular morning game.

As soon as you start warming up, your playing partners stop and stare.

“What happened to you?”

Your serves are landing deep and aggressive… no more shanks, no more pop-ups. When they return, you’re already reading where the ball is going. Your third shot drop is pulling them out of position. At the kitchen line, you’re controlling rallies with patience and precision they’ve never seen from you before.

By the third game, they’re asking what you did. By the fifth game, they’re asking where you learned it. By the time you leave, they’re asking if you can teach them.

That’s the difference between who you are right now and who you’ll be after the camp.

And it all starts the moment you register, because the transformation begins before you even arrive.

WHAT YOU'LL ACTUALLY WALK AWAY WITH (The Real Outcomes)

You'll Dominate Points Without Exhausting Yourself

I’ll teach you how to control rallies through intelligent positioning and smart shot selection… not just power. You’ll start winning more points while using less energy.

Soon after camp, your opponents will be working twice as hard for half the results. While they’re gasping for air, you’ll stay fresh, composed, and ready for the next point.

This is especially important for us 40+ players. We focus on helping you play smarter, not harder… so you can play multiple times a week without burning out or risking injury.

You'll Meet Your New Playing Crew (And Stay Connected For Life)

I’ll connect you with other passionate players at your exact skill level. You’ll exchange numbers, join the Obsessed Pickleballers Community together, and stay permanently connected with everyone you meet.

No one gets left behind. Whether you’re naturally social or more reserved, local or visiting, you’ll be welcomed and seamlessly connected with the entire group through our community platform.

After camp, the group chat starts buzzing with game invites and practice sessions. By next month, you’ll have a regular crew of players who understand your goals, your schedule, and your commitment to improvement, no more showing up alone, hoping to find a good match.

You'll Know Exactly What To Do in Every Situation

I’ll eliminate the hesitation that’s been costing you points. Drive or drop? Your body already knows. When to move to the kitchen? You’re already moving. How to handle the lob? You’re executing before you finish thinking about it.

When you step into matches the following week, your opponents will see the difference. They’ll see a player who moves with confidence and certainty, someone who’s always one step ahead.

You'll Stop Making the Same Mistakes That Have Been Holding You Back

I’ll help you identify the 2–3 technical flaws that are quietly limiting your game. With my 25+ years of racquet sports expertise and training with many great coaches and top players, I can help you grasp one new concept that transforms your game.

Most players spend years battling the same weaknesses. You’ll correct yours in a single afternoon.

That forehand that used to sail long? Now landing deep with topspin.

The backhand you avoided? Now a dependable go-to shot.

The serve that made you nervous? Now setting up points in your favor.

You'll Reignite the Passion You Had When You First Discovered This Game

I’ll show you how good you can actually be. You’ll leave energized, confident, and already looking forward to your next time on the court.

Remember when you first fell in love with pickleball, when you couldn’t wait to play? If that feeling has been fading lately…

On May 30th, it comes roaring back.

Because when you experience what it feels like to play at your true potential, when you finally break through that plateau… that’s when the obsession returns.
