MEET YOUR COACH

Hi, I am Coach Toni Roby – Nine-Time US Open Competitor and Central Virginia's Most Passionate Pickleball Coach

I’m a PPR Certified Pickleball Instructor, nine-year US Open competitor, JOOLA Virginia Pickleball Classic medalist, 15-year basketball and softball coach, and I’ve dedicated my coaching career to one mission: helping women in their 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s and beyond at the advanced beginner level build the solid foundation, confidence, and court awareness that creates a clear, direct path to 3.0 and beyond.

In 2008, I was introduced to pickleball as a casual activity. Within a short time, it had become a full-blown passion, the sport, the competition, the community. I started competing in 2010 and never stopped. Nine years of playing in the US Open in Naples. Multiple medals across regional and national competitions. And through all of it, I brought the same structured, patient approach to develop players from advanced beginner to 3.0.

What I bring to your game:

PPR Certified Pickleball Instructor — Professional Pickleball Registry, official certification partner of USA Pickleball

Nine-time US Open competitor — Naples, FL — one of the most consistent amateur presences at the sport's premier event

JOOLA Virginia Pickleball Classic Medalist — Women's Doubles 3.5, Ages 60-69

Charlottesville Cup competitor — active in the Central Virginia regional tournament circuit

Recognized by Central Virginia Pickleball Club (CEVA) — newsletter featured regional athlete and community contributor

15 years coaching basketball and softball at a professional level — structural coaching expertise built across two decades

Active tournament competitor since 2010 — over 15 years of competitive experience informing every coaching decision

Offering lessons and clinics across Waynesboro, Staunton, and Charlottesville, VA

Community organizer — coordinates open plays and skill-building sessions across the Central Virginia pickleball network

Seasonal presence in Florida and Virginia — dual-community coaching footprint across two of the strongest pickleball markets in the country

My story: I retired and moved to Florida in 2008 not knowing that pickleball would become the center of my life. What started as a casual activity at a community court turned into a deep passion — for the sport, for the competition, and most of all for the community it creates. I started competing in 2010 and played in the US Open in Naples for nine consecutive years.

But what drives me as a coach isn’t the medals, it’s the same thing that drove me through 15 years of coaching and a career as a school Principal: watching people grow. Whether it was a student figuring out a math concept, an athlete mastering a new skill, or a pickleball player finally landing that third shot drop — that moment of breakthrough is what I live for.

My approach: I bring the same passion, enthusiasm, and structured approach to pickleball that I developed over decades of coaching and educational leadership. As a PPR-certified instructor, I focus on building strong fundamentals while creating a fun, competitive, and encouraging environment. I believe that every player at the 2.5-3.0 level already has more than they think, my job is to help them see it, build on it, and use it to push confidently toward 3.0.

Here's what makes my approach unstoppable:

I bring PPR certification, nine years of US Open competitive experience, 15 years of professional multi-sport coaching, and a genuine passion for this sport, all focused on helping advanced beginner players build the specific fundamentals and confidence that create a direct, clear path to 3.0.

But here’s what I’m MOST focused on: Patient, fundamentals-first drilling that builds real confidence.

Not overwhelming drilling — but structured, encouraging drilling where you practice the right technique until it clicks and becomes instinct. The kind where you hit balls repeatedly with a 15-year coaching veteran watching and correcting every rep. The kind that creates those immediate “a-ha!” moments that show up in your very next game.

I don’t waste time talking. We drill. You improve. You feel it immediately.

On June 25th, I’m bringing this passion, structure, and competitive experience to advanced beginner players ready to level up in Charlottesville.

WHY I'M OBSESSED WITH DRILLING (AND WHY YOU WILL BE TOO)

Most advanced beginner camps overwhelm you with too much too fast.

I’m different.

Here’s my philosophy: Repetition = Confidence

You don’t learn pickleball by watching demonstrations. You learn by actually doing it — repeatedly, with correct form, with a nine-time US Open competitor watching every rep — and building the kind of muscle memory that holds up in real games.

And here’s the truth about why I’m obsessed with beginner-friendly drilling:

Because let’s be honest — we all love that moment when we try something new and it actually WORKS, don’t we?

That moment when your dink lands softly in the kitchen… every time.

That rush when your serve goes in deep and consistent.

That feeling when you rally back and forth with real control.

You don’t have to wait weeks to see progress. You see it immediately. Right there on the court.

That’s why purposeful drilling is the heartbeat of my advanced beginner camps. Not because I think it’s good for you (though it is), but because it’s incredibly satisfying to watch someone go from “I can’t do this” to “I just did that!” in a single afternoon.

Player Stories

See why women love learning from Toni.

Hi, I’m Debbie from Oklahoma. I really enjoyed today’s drill. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it exceeded my expectations. I got plenty of reps, learned many new aspects of the game, and added to my toolbox. It was a great experience.

– Debbie

Hi, I’m Linda. I’m from Iowa. I joined the camp today. It was great to touch on all different aspects. We’re able to drill enough that we got good at all the different aspects. So I’m ready to hit the courts.

– Linda

Hi. I just finished an Obsessed
Pickleballers clinic, and I would
recommend it to anyone who wants to get better. They have a great way of explaining things, and they teach in a way that anyone can get better in the four-hour session.

– Camp Attendee

REMEMBER FEELING LIKE YOU WERE STUCK AT THE SAME LEVEL?

You know that moment when you see people playing pickleball and think…

“I can’t reach that level”?

“I’m not athletic enough”?

“Everyone else can rally better than me”?

That feeling ends on June 25th.

Because by the time you walk off the court at 4:00 PM, you’ll be playing pickleball at a higher level. You’ll understand the rules better. You’ll know how to position yourself. And you’ll have a clear path to becoming the player you’ve been watching from the sidelines.

IMAGINE THIS: It's Saturday, June 27th (Two Days After Camp)

You’re at your local pickleball court and you see a group playing pickleball.

But this time, instead of watching from the sidelines, you walk up confidently.

“Mind if I join?”

They welcome you in. You step onto the court. You call out the score correctly. Your serves go in consistently. Your positioning is already better. You dink the ball back and forth. You’re playing pickleball better than you thought you would, and holding your own.

By the end of the games, they’re asking if you want to join their regular group. They’re exchanging phone numbers. You’re already part of the community.

That’s the difference between who you are right now and who you’ll be after the camp.

And it all starts the moment you register, because the transformation begins before you even arrive.

WHAT YOU'LL ACTUALLY WALK AWAY WITH (The Real Outcomes)

You'll Actually Immerse Yourself in Pickleball

I’ll teach you every fundamental skill you need to step onto any court and play better. You won’t just understand the theory, you’ll have actually done it, repeatedly, with patient coaching from a competitive tournament player who knows exactly what great technique looks like at every level.

By the end of camp, you’ll be able to do all of these things better: serve, return, dink, volley, keep score, and rally. You’ll understand the rules better. You’ll know the etiquette with more nuance. You’ll be a real pickleball player.

You'll Meet Your New Women's Playing Crew (And Stay Connected For Life)

I’ll connect you with other passionate women at your exact skill level. You’ll exchange numbers, join the Obsessed Pickleballers Community together, and stay permanently connected with everyone you meet.

No one gets left behind. Whether you’re naturally social or more reserved, you’ll be welcomed and seamlessly connected through our community platform.

After camp, the group chat starts buzzing with game invites and practice sessions. By next month, you’ll have a regular crew of women players who understand your goals, your schedule, and your commitment to improvement.

You'll Have Confidence to Play Anywhere

I’ll eliminate the fear that’s been keeping you on the sidelines. Not sure about the rules? You’ll know them. Worried about looking foolish? You’ll have practiced hundreds of shots. Intimidated by the scoring? You’ll be calling it out confidently.

When you step onto courts the following week, you’ll walk on with your head held high. You’re not a beginner hoping to fake it, you’re a trained player ready to learn, improve, and get to the next level.

You'll Understand Your Path to 3.0 and Beyond

I’ll show you exactly what to practice and how to improve. You won’t be wandering aimlessly, you’ll have a clear roadmap from advanced beginner to intermediate and beyond.

Most beginners spend months or years developing bad habits. You’ll learn the right way from day one, setting yourself up for rapid improvement.

You'll Fall in Love with This Amazing Sport

I’ll show you why millions of people are obsessed with pickleball. You’ll leave energized, excited, and already planning your next time on the court.

Remember feeling unsure if you’d be able to play pickleball with the confidence others play it with?

On June 25th, that question gets answered.

Because when you experience what it feels like to actually maintain a rally, when you’re laughing, competing, and connecting with new friends, that’s when you catch the pickleball bug.
